Living in a destitute house with eight children and a husband with meagre income, Savitri (Nirupa Roy) attempts to poison them all. But her eldest daughter, Shalini (Mumtaz) intervenes in time and promises to pull her family out their financial burden. Shalini fulfils her promise and her family prospers. However, Shalini's choice of profession leads her to lose respect of her family and become an outcast. The question remains, why would Shalini be ill-treated by her very family, and if so, what will become of her?
